Dear Garden Lover,

My name is Edward and I am 13 years old. My friend William is 14 and together we have started a business collecting and selling mossy rocks. I am saving up to buy a saxophone and Will wants to play cricket with his school in England. But more than that, we want to run a successful business with lots of happy customers.

Our business is different! Because we have no machinery we have to pick up our rocks by hand. This is hard work but it also has many benefits for good gardeners like you.

The first benefit is that we only pick the best mossy rocks. We look for the ones that are really thickly covered with moss and lichens.

The second benefit is that we handle the rocks carefully. We don’t knock them around. Did you know that the best, thickest and most beautiful lichen covered rocks are the oldest and MOST DELICATE! If you bash, throw or knock them around, the beautiful decorations fall off. So we carefully pick them up and load them by hand into our trailer and then unload them by hand carefully at your place so that the beauty of these rocks is preserved....

And talking about preservation..... because we hand collect the impact on the environment is minimal. There are no big machines ripping up the ground and increasing erosion. We don’t take all the rocks, we leave some as habitat for little creatures. Mostly ants, spiders, scorpions and snakes! And as we take, we give, sewing native grass seeds into the holes left by the rocks taken. These small depressions provide an excellent place for the grasses to germinate and thrive and minimise the risk of weed invasion. And just to let you know, we collect our rocks from our properties south of Canberra. No rocks are taken from parks or public bushland. That’s another reason we take such good care.

The third benefit is that because we hand collect we can get exactly what you want, big, small, medium or gigantic. Just let us know what you want.
