Never ever say “thank you”

When you have finished your speech (and have the audience eating out of your hand), never ever say “thank you”. You see, it is the audience who should thank you for the opportunity of hearing your words. Finish, therefore, on a high note, drop your head to let the audience know the speech is finished and wait for the applause. Then walk calmly and confidently back to your seat.

In a recent survey, business people rated their number one fear as speaking in public. The fear they rated second was death. This suggests that most people would rather die than speak in public. If you follow these simple rules and religiously apply the three Ps of public speaking, death will no longer be a welcome release for you. Rather, you will have new life and exuberance in your speaking. The ability to speak in public will stand you in good stead in the important task of marketing your practice. Being able to get your message across effectively and convincingly will reap rich rewards both personally and professionally.
