Letter of the Month

Good morning!

This is the first time I have ever written to you.

So I want to apologise for not writing sooner but you probably know how it is. Sometimes, with all the best intentions in the world, you just don't get to do what you want to do as soon as you would like. But, now I’ve done it and finally written my first letter to you so please accept my thanks in advance for taking the time to read it.

Just the other day I realised that I have been practising in Mytown now for 13 years and over those years I have been continually updating my knowledge and skills… going to seminars to hear the gurus of modern dentistry, studying hard and learning many exciting new techniques… and as well investing in the best equipment and materials in dentistry.

It's a really exciting time to be a dentist. There are some wonderful things we can do these days to make your teeth last a long time and look great so that you feel fantastic.

But do you know the most important thing I have discovered? None of those things matter if I don’t tell you because it means that you will never know about them.

And that’s therefore the reason for this letter. To keep you informed.

Now let me ask you something. Have you ever thought to yourself “I wish my teeth were whiter" or "My teeth are OK but I wish they were straighter" or "If only I had a nicer smile I wouldn't have to hide it." If so, you are not alone. Many people have those thoughts.

Imagine what a difference it would make if you turn those thoughts into reality. Well may be you can!

For example, let me tell you about a 79-year-old lady who came to see me sometime ago. A friend had referred her to me to fix her upper partial denture. We got that under control and checked her other teeth. They were basically sound but worn down and discoloured from age.

She hated the look of her natural teeth but had always put it in the "too hard" basket. She was worried that fixing them might not be possible or would cost a fortune so it took her a little while to gain enough confidence to talk to me about them. She wanted my opinion on what could be done and was delighted to learn that we could improve her smile significantly. Initially she struggled with the cost but we solved that with a comfortable payment plan.

The upshot was that she has now had it done and loves her new smile… and the rest of the family do too!

Now she really didn't need to have it done, it wasn’t exactly life or death treatment. She could easily have gone on with the smile she didn't like for the rest of her life! But boy, is she happy she did get her smile enhanced!

Now, maybe, I've never sat down and talked with you as I did with that lady about whether there’s anything you’d like changed about your smile and, if that’s the case, I apologise.

Maybe you haven’t raised it with me because you were unsure, or it wasn’t the right time or you thought you couldn’t afford it or whatever. And maybe even now is not a good time to do it. But we can talk about it, let you know your options and plan for the future.

I'd love to talk with you at your next appointment about what you would like for your smile, now and for the future. If you can't wait and want to make an appointment soon, call Barbara and make a time.

Thanks for reading to the very end. I look forward to seeing you soon. Oh, and by the way, I promise that I’ll stay in touch much more regularly in future.

Yours sincerely,

Bill Smith, DDs

P.S. And of course we can talk about all the other new and innovative things I can do for you (or any other member of your family) like implants, tooth whitening and so on.
