Here’s a couple of photos of the front door of a shop and, as the subscriber who sent it to me said, “We wonder if they get any business!” He added, “You never see the owner smiling!”

There seems to be a particular group of business owners who belong to a cult of prodigious warning sign producers. They obviously have ample time, lots of paper and huge computer power that allow them to knock up all sorts of warning and intimidatory signs at the drop of a hat!

Bearing in mind that the first thing customers, clients, patients and patrons want is to be made welcome, signs like these will produce the exact opposite effect.

So, have a look around your business, both inside and out, and check the signs you and your team have produced. Are they really necessary and, if so, do they threaten or peacefully cajole? Do they look good… if not how can you improve them?
