Interesting job

In the poll of what people look for in their work this was the most important requirement. People want a job that has variety and interest.

That’s probably what you reckon they’ve got. Every day your sales people are out in the marketplace looking at a whole lot of interesting situations. But is that how they see it? Maybe they see that they just do the same old thing day after day with no relief from the relentless grind to make a sale.

Give them an occasional challenge, a knotty problem or an interesting project to get their teeth into to add variety, flavour and spice to their routine activities. A little bit of curry in a bland diet works miracles. So find ways to involve them in other activities and other aspects of the business from time-to-time to add the spiciness of interest to their role.
